Introduction

Pak'nSave Botany is a large supermarket operation with over 100 employees. Like many high-volume retail environments, the workforce includes a significant proportion of young and part-time staff, with naturally high staff turnover.

Maintaining consistent operational standards and clear workplace expectations across all staff is an ongoing management priority.

Challenge

Ensuring that staff understand and consistently apply expected workplace behaviours can be difficult in fast-paced retail environments.

Traditional employment reviews often focus on performance retrospectively, rather than reinforcing expectations on an ongoing basis.

Management required a more structured and consistent approach to:

  • Reinforce workplace standards
  • Improve staff awareness of expectations
  • Support line managers in structured conversations with employees
  • Reduce ambiguity around acceptable workplace behaviour

Solution

JET worked with Pak'nSave Botany to implement a structured “Employment Review” process using the QS5 Insight & Measurement Platform.

The system delivered a regular, structured questionnaire that staff completed as part of an ongoing engagement and review process.

The purpose of the system was to:

  • Clearly communicate expected workplace standards
  • Reinforce consistent behaviours across the workforce
  • Provide a structured framework for manager–employee discussions
  • Encourage self-awareness of workplace expectations

Example question format included:

“Do you arrive at work at least 5 minutes before the start of your shift and are you ready to work?”

Responses were structured as:

  • Always
  • Mostly
  • Sometimes
  • Never

This approach ensured expectations were clearly defined and consistently communicated across all staff.

Result

The introduction of a structured, repeatable engagement process provided management with a more consistent mechanism for reinforcing workplace standards.

It supported clearer communication of expectations, improved alignment between staff and management, and provided a structured basis for ongoing performance conversations.

The system helped shift expectations from informal, verbal communication to a consistent and measurable engagement framework.
